Mission and Social Justice

The purpose of the Mission and Social Justice Committee is to recommend programs to our Church that follow the words of Jesus found in the Gospel of Matthew, Chapter 25: 34-41, “For when I was hungry, you gave me food; when thirsty, you gave me drink; when I was a stranger you took me into your home, when naked you clothed me; when I was ill you came to my help, when in prison you visited. . . . I tell you this: anything you did for one of my brothers here, however humble, you did for me.”

The Hanover Presbyterian Church endorses and financially supports two international and four local missions.

National and International Missions:

Local Missions:

  • Community and World Relief Projects Fund   is a way to support local and global efforts to reduce insecurity in the areas of food, clothing, and other necessities.

  • La Casa Amiga Hispanic Center   is a resource center to help Spanish-speaking members of our community.

  •  House of Hope Food Pantry   is a joint ministry of seventeen (17) churches in Jefferson County to serve the physical (food and personal care items), spiritual, and relational needs of families. Because there is no paid staff, volunteers are always welcome to help with food distribution or the preparation for distribution. (more information is listed below)  .

  • Open Hands, Open Hearts Benevolence Fund   is a joint ministry of Hanover Presbyterian Church and Hanover United Methodist Church that provides funds to assist local residents who are having trouble paying expenses, such as utility bills, prescription costs, rent, or travel costs to/from doctor's appointments. This fund is managed by Hanover United Methodist Church (812-866-3101)
